Interest in Metabolomics has grown considerably over the last several years. It is a powerful approach to functional biology. Mass spectrometry is an important and the most useful tool in Metabolomics study.

The Metabolomics Core Laboratory is a nonprofit organization established at the UC Davis Genome Center. It is designed to provide services on the recharge basis. Facility is directed by Dr. Vladimir Tolstikov. The Core Facility is housed in UC Davis Genome Center, GBSF building.

The Finnigan LTQ (ThermoElectron) ion trap mass spectrometer and Qtrap4000 (Applied Biosystems) can be coupled with the WATERS Acquity UPLC separation module, equipped with the column manager, providing high performance and fast separations, or the Surveyor HPLC (ThermoElectron) module which is used for regular HPLC separations. API ion sources (ESI, APCI/APPI) are used for ionization.

The Finnigan LTQ-FT-ICR-MS (ThermoFischer) is equipped with nano-ESI ion source providing soft ionization. High resolution (>900.000), accurate mass determinations (<1ppm), and MSn are available. Instrument is shared with UCD Proteomics Core.

NanoMate-ESI robotic device (Advion BioSciences) can be coupled with LTQ or with LTQ-FT-ICR mass spectrometers providing stable ESI-nanospray with low sample consumption.

Services

We perform high-quality, cost-effective, core services for metabolomics research and target analysis. We apply years of experience and state-of-the-art instrumentation to put your research at the cutting edge. The Core Facility seeks to provide the highest quality standards, reagents, and solvents, metabolomics and target GC-MS and LC-MS analysis services in a timely, convenient, and cost-effective manner to support the research programs of the UC Davis Campus and the off-campus researchers. We provide help with experimental design, convenient on-line ordering methods, and fast turnaround times.

Submit samples

Prior submitting samples PI should establish billing account in our online billing system: http://www.genomecenter.ucdavis.edu/cores/. Please follow the instruction on this website. To submit samples for Metabolic Profiling please use the SetupX-System to capture the metadata about your experiment, samples before you actually send the samples for analysis into our lab. Ask for estimates when planning your experiments. To submit samples for target analysis or structure elucidation please contact Dr. Vladimir Tolstikov.

Grants

The Genome Center is soliciting applications for Pilot Projects applicable towards service fees in all GC cores. Due date is June 15, 2008. Pilot project link: pilot project.
